If you are a regular reader, you will know that I am a huge fan of men’s shoes and sneakers (my closet is practically heaving with different footwear options!). Thanks to my extensive experience with various styles, I have a well-informed opinion on design, quality, and, importantly, comfort.
After being introduced to the Macalmo brand, I was instantly drawn to their fashionable designs and unique styles, so I was more than happy to give them a test drive. The brand launched in 2019 in Philadelphia, and its collection is hand-made in Le Marche, Italy (to take advantage of their excellent craftsmanship).
Style & Design
The Don Giovanni sneakers expertly blend the lines between formal and casual. The upper section features a brogue effect along the toe cap, heel, and below the laces. For a unique contrast, this classic design is complemented with a chunky sole (akin to what you would see on designer trainers). Overall, this mix of two opposing styles creates something truly eye-catching.

Packaging
Not all shoe brands are equal, especially when it comes to how they are packaged. Many retailers are guilty of shipping their latest shoes off to customers in flimsy boxes which are already damaged upon arrival, with poor quality tissue paper ‘attempting’ to protect the contents.
Macalmo has avoided this practice, and their shoes are packaged in top-tier boxes. Opting for a gorgeous forest green colour and using a linen-textured material with a gold foiling effect for the logo, the packaging is already ahead of the competition.
Inside the heavy-duty and sturdy box, you will find a premium soft tissue which has been folded neatly (rather than just screwed up haphazardly). There is also a number of different leaflets inside the box so that you can check out more items from the Macalmo range.
Construction & Value For Money
Each pair of shoes has been lovingly handcrafted in Italy by expert artisans, using a super-soft full-grain leather for the upper and lining sections, along with a lightweight EVA outsole. Furthermore, the brand has gone the extra mile to source the leather materials from Italian tanneries which adhere to strict environmental procedures (in order to protect Mother Nature).
As with all things in life, you get what you pay for, and for these shoes, the price tag represents the quality on offer. Every thread, piece of leather and even the laces boast an exemplary level of craftwork (with not even a hint of a flaw on show!). The price may sit comfortably in the mid-to-high range, but the final product easily justifies it. Additionally, the brand offers a 10+ year guarantee, so you can be confident in knowing that you will have a fantastic pair of shoes for well over a decade.
